L4Learn

hi all ...
Hmm so here we are with one more possibility .... Possibilty of knowing that the world is very small ... possibilty that any system in this world can be connected to the other possibility that every computert in this world can communicate with the other....
But how is this made possible ... Well of allllllllllll those networking tools and applications which help the cause ... ruling on the top clearly are two services Telnet and FTP ... Telnet and Ftp are two applicative services which enable two computers to communicate with eachother as if they were physically wired ... Telnet allows the user to log on to an account on a remote computer and work as if you were there ...where as ....FTP allows u to move the files to and fro from one system or network to another ... like u and me :P ..... both these services are supported world wide and are famous for the notorious (:P) job they do .....
Telnet is basically a tele(far or remote) network protocol ... FTP is basically a File tranfer Protocol ... A protocol is a set of rules for both transmision and connection..... A rule is procedure(not restriction ) for transmission and connection .....
Now lets have a look at two things about telnet and ftp which usually are difficult to find through google.... ( i didn't say impossible )...... its waste to give the functioning options of the services as they are giving more beautifully on the web by many more talented people.....
Telnet and FTP are basically written for the same type of networks and are coded the same way ...then y do they have different functionalities ....... Well here is the reason .... Telnet only allows small packets for transfer ... thus at a time u can send very light weight data such as login name, password or commands for execution .... file transfer in small packets at such rate will be disastorous ..... just imagine waiting for a 4kb file for ages to be copied on to your system .... when u could just physically go and bring it .... lol ...... FTP on the other hand allows large packets for transfer and hence it is not usually the best option to transfer data like id and password .... so, to avoid wastage/overburden of bandwith , the protocols are so designed that even if one wants they cannot login with ftp and cannot move a file with Telnet...... yes this is a rule still not a restriction .... as u r are given a procedure to login and send file seperatley ... and its not a restriction as u have an alternative to fulfill ur requirement ..... :)
the second interesting thing is the option term type we see while are telenetting.... In earlier versions of windows like me and 98 we see that this option is term type and the default value is vt 100 .... well this vt 100 is always confusing and in most of the tutorials on net about telnet no body tells as to what it does and why ..... well this is a video terminal emulator .... the telnet screen we see after passing the connect command is actually wat we are selecting here as vt 100 .... there are various alternatives .... like vt 220 and ibm3270..... The properties of vt100 etc and the commands it supports are however very tough to discuss here .... but they can be learnt to help using the terminal however i wont be giving them here .. one can get to know them from google ... as the search is now narrowed by me now ;) .....
well this isnt the peak yet lots more to come and wait for its every bit ..... hold tite and keep waiting....

bye for now ...
Dhawal Bhanushali.....
